A slice of temple tranquilty in hectic Hanoi

At first glance the heaving city of Hanoi is overwhelming, in a sensory overload kind of way. Staying in the heart of the action in the Old Quarter, we took a wander through the buzz and found the ultimate city escape nearby.

There’s a huge lake with a beautiful wooden bridge that crosses over to Ngoc Son Temple; and with so many sites to visit in Vietnam’s biggest city, it’s the perfect first choice to simply take a breath.

Standing on the mystical fig tree island, the street racket feels soothingly further away, the sweet smell of incense clears your mind and the traditional architecture of the temple makes it possible to stop for just a few moments. Everything else can wait.

Silence is a source of great strength. Lao Tzu
