La pasión de Botero
One of the most famous of the modern Colombian artists would have to be a guy that loves to paint, sculpt and illustrate voluptuous figures of people and still life.
So round in fact, you would be forgiven in thinking the guy has a fat fetish.
His work is gorgeous, political and provocative; synonymous with the city of Bogota and the entire Colombian culture. His name is Fernando Botero and
I was seriously impressed with his style.
He´s one of those rare artists that has become internationally renowned while still alive. He has creatively addressed the violence associated with Colombian drug cartels, painted his political opinion regarding prisoner abuse within Abu Graib prison,
as well as creating simple still life pieces of zealous fruit. Let alone making chunky beautiful!
If you have a few days in the Colombian capital don´t miss this artist. You can visit a permanent gallery dedicated to his work at the Museo Botero in Bogota. Some of my favourites are below.
